Kimpton offers several possibilities, and the right one depends on your guest count, the time of day, your design and how you want the wedding to feel.
Beach Ceremony
For couples who picture themselves saying their vows with their feet near the sand and the Caribbean Sea behind them, the beach is the classic choice.
This works beautifully for a true Roatán destination-wedding experience.
I particularly love the beach for couples who want the natural setting to do much of the decorating. A thoughtfully designed ceremony arch, beautiful florals and elegant seating can be enough—you don’t need to compete with the ocean.
Best for:
Couples who want the quintessential Caribbean beach wedding.
Planner consideration:
Sunset time, wind, tides, guest comfort and the weather forecast all need to be incorporated into the ceremony plan.
Beachfront Rooftop
For couples who want ocean views without necessarily having the ceremony directly on the sand, a rooftop celebration can offer a completely different feeling.
It can be especially beautiful for a smaller, more intimate wedding or elopement.
Best for:
Intimate weddings, elopements and couples who want elevated ocean views with a contemporary atmosphere.
Ocean-View Decks and Terraces
Kimpton also offers outdoor deck and terrace spaces that can work well for ceremonies, cocktail hours or portions of the wedding reception.
These spaces are worth considering when a couple loves the ocean backdrop but doesn’t necessarily want every part of the wedding directly on the beach.
Best for:
Couples looking for an elegant destination-wedding setting that still feels connected to the Caribbean.
Reception Options at Kimpton Grand Roatán
One advantage of this resort is that the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception do not have to happen in exactly the same setting.
Creating movement throughout the evening can make the wedding feel like an experience rather than one long event in a single space.
Depending on the celebration, we may consider spaces such as:
Orquidea Ballroom
The ballroom is the strongest option for an indoor reception and an extremely important consideration for couples marrying during Roatán’s wetter months.
It can be transformed with florals, candles, lighting, linens, a dance floor and entertainment so that moving indoors does not have to feel like settling for a second choice.
Orquidea Terrace
A lovely option for a more intimate gathering or as part of a multi-space celebration.
The Enah Deck
Another option for cocktail receptions and wedding-weekend gatherings, especially when you want guests outdoors enjoying Roatán rather than spending the entire celebration inside.
Rooftop Options
For smaller weddings and intimate events, rooftop spaces offer a completely different perspective and can create a very special dinner or celebration.
What Size Wedding Works Well at Kimpton Grand Roatán?
One of Kimpton’s advantages is flexibility.
For an intimate celebration of 20–30 guests, I would look at the smaller outdoor, rooftop or terrace spaces before automatically selecting the largest event area.
For weddings in the 40–80 guest range, there are several attractive combinations of ceremony, cocktail and reception spaces.
For approximately 80–100+ guests, careful floor planning becomes increasingly important, particularly once we add the dance floor, DJ, bar, buffet or food stations, sweetheart table and circulation space.
The resort’s published event capacities extend beyond 100 guests in several spaces, but maximum venue capacity and the number of guests I would personally recommend placing in a space are not always the same thing.
My philosophy is simple: I would rather design a room that feels beautiful and comfortable than fill every available square foot simply because technically we can.
The Ballroom Plan B: Why It Matters
This deserves its own section because weather planning in Roatán should never be an afterthought.
Roatán is a tropical island. Although we enjoy beautiful weather throughout much of the year, our rainier period generally falls between October and January, with October, November and December among our wetter months.
That doesn’t mean you cannot have a beautiful wedding during those months.
It means your wedding planner needs a real Plan B.
Not:
“We’ll figure something out if it rains.”
A real plan.
We should know in advance:
- Where the ceremony will move.
- Where the cocktail hour will take place.
- Whether the reception layout changes.
- How florals and décor will be relocated.
- Who makes the final weather decision.
- At what time that decision must be made.
- How vendors will be informed.
- Whether the photography timeline needs adjusting.
- How guests will be directed to the new location.

A Real Kimpton Rain Plan: Audrey & Michael
Audrey and Michael arrived in Roatán aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise with approximately 30–40 friends and family for their December wedding.
The original plan was a beautiful beach ceremony.
And then it rained.
Rather than allowing weather to turn into wedding-day chaos, we were prepared with an indoor option. The celebration was moved into Kimpton’s ballroom, creating an intimate and elegant ceremony and reception protected from the weather.

Jen & Xerxes: Beach Ceremony + Brunch Reception
Jen and Xerxes’ Kimpton wedding was another perfect example of why flexibility matters.
They planned a tropical beach ceremony in December, and shortly before the ceremony, the rain arrived.
Fortunately, the weather cleared in time for their ceremony to remain outdoors on the beach.
After saying “I do,” the celebration continued inside with a colorful brunch reception in the ballroom.
Their wedding is a great example for couples who don’t necessarily want the traditional evening-wedding formula.
Destination weddings give you permission to rethink the timeline.
A morning ceremony followed by brunch, an afternoon celebration, a sunset ceremony followed by dinner—or an entire wedding weekend—can all work beautifully in Roatán.

What Are the Best Months for a Kimpton Grand Roatán Wedding?
There is no single perfect wedding month because every couple has different priorities.
If your priority is maximizing the likelihood of drier outdoor conditions, I generally like February through June, with April and May traditionally among Roatán’s driest months.
October through January typically requires more attention to weather planning.
But I would not automatically rule those months out.
We have created beautiful December weddings at Kimpton. The difference is that we go into the wedding knowing exactly what we will do if the weather changes.
For any Roatán wedding, I recommend selecting your date based on a combination of:
- Weather patterns
- Resort availability
- Guest travel schedules
- Flight availability
- Holiday periods

Kimpton offers beach wedding options as well as other outdoor settings. The best location will depend on your guest count, wedding design, time of day and the resort’s availability for your date.
Does Kimpton Grand Roatán have an indoor rain option?
Yes. The Orquidea Ballroom provides an important indoor option for weddings when weather makes an outdoor celebration impractical.
We recommend developing the rain plan during the planning process rather than waiting until the wedding day.
How many guests can attend a Kimpton Grand Roatán wedding?
Kimpton has spaces suitable for intimate celebrations as well as weddings of more than 100 guests. The ideal space depends on the type of setup you want.
Remember that guest capacity is only part of the equation. A reception also needs room for dining tables, dance floor, DJ or band, bar, décor, buffet or food service and comfortable guest movement.
Can I have a small wedding or elopement at Kimpton?
Absolutely. Some of Kimpton’s rooftop, beach and terrace settings can be particularly attractive for intimate weddings and elopements.
A small guest count does not mean the wedding has to feel simple. We can still create an intentional ceremony, beautiful florals, photography and a private celebratory dinner.
Can I have a cruise wedding at Kimpton Grand Roatán?
Depending on the ship’s port schedule, venue availability and the logistics for your specific sailing, Kimpton may be an option for a cruise-day wedding.
Cruise weddings require a much more precise timeline than traditional destination weddings because transportation to and from the port and the ship’s departure time must be considered from the beginning.

You don’t necessarily have to hire an outside planner, but the roles are different.
