Roatán Elopements & Intimate Weddings
A Beautiful Wedding Doesn’t Need a Big Guest List
Dreaming of getting married in Roatán without planning a large traditional wedding?
An elopement or intimate wedding in Roatán can be one of the most meaningful ways to celebrate your marriage.
Imagine exchanging vows beside the Caribbean with just the two of you—or surrounded by a small group of the people closest to you. Add beautiful flowers, professional photography, champagne, cake and a romantic dinner, and suddenly a simple ceremony becomes an unforgettable destination experience.
At Weddings Roatan, we have been planning weddings and celebrations in the Bay Islands since 2001, including elopements, intimate weddings, cruise-day ceremonies, vow renewals and proposals.
Whether it is just the two of you or a celebration with 10, 20 or 30 guests, we can help you create a wedding that feels personal rather than packaged.
Small does not have to mean ordinary. It can mean intentional.
Why Elope in Roatán?
Roatán offers something particularly special for couples planning a small destination wedding.
You can exchange vows overlooking turquoise Caribbean water, celebrate with dinner beside the ocean and spend the rest of your trip enjoying the island together.
An intimate wedding can also give you more flexibility. Instead of designing an event around 100 guests, you can focus on the experiences that matter most to you. That might mean:
- A private beach ceremony
- An ocean-view rooftop
- Beautiful florals
- A violinist during your ceremony
- Professional photography around the island
- Champagne after your vows
- A private romantic dinner
- A sunset boat ride
- A beautiful wedding cake
- A day at the beach with your closest friends and family
The celebration can be simple or elegant. The important thing is that it feels like you.
What Can a Roatán Elopement Include?
Every couple is different, so we prefer to personalize each celebration. Depending on your vision, your Roatán elopement or intimate wedding can include:
Ceremony Location
We help you choose a setting that matches the experience you want, whether that is a beach, resort, rooftop or oceanfront venue.
Officiant
We can arrange an officiant for a symbolic ceremony and help you understand the process if you are considering a legal marriage in Honduras.
Florals
Your flowers might include:
- Bridal bouquet
- Boutonnière
- Ceremony arrangements
- Floral arch or installation
- Aisle flowers
- Dinner-table flowers
For a small wedding, even a few carefully selected floral elements can completely transform the setting.
Photography & Video
Photography is especially important for an elopement because your photographs become the story you share with friends and family who were not present. Depending on the celebration, photography can include:
- Getting ready
- Ceremony
- Couple portraits
- Beach photographs
- Sunset portraits
- Cake cutting
- Champagne toast
- Romantic dinner
Ceremony Décor
A small ceremony can still feel beautifully designed. Options may include:
- Floral arch
- Ground florals
- Chairs
- Candles
- Welcome sign
- Personalized ceremony details
Champagne & Cake
After saying “I do,” celebrate with a champagne toast and a small wedding cake designed especially for the two of you.
Private Dinner
One of our favorite ways to end an intimate Roatán wedding is with dinner overlooking the Caribbean. Whether you prefer a restaurant celebration or a more private setting, we can help coordinate the details.
Transportation
We can coordinate transportation from your hotel—or from the cruise port if you are visiting Roatán for the day.
Elopements for Two
Yes, you can absolutely come to Roatán and get married with just the two of you.
Some couples imagine that planning a wedding for two means there isn’t much to plan. In reality, those small details become even more important because everything is focused entirely on the couple.
We can coordinate your ceremony location, officiant, bouquet, boutonnière, photographer, transportation, champagne, cake and romantic dinner.
You don’t need bridesmaids. You don’t need a seating chart. You don’t need 100 invitations.
All you need is a celebration that feels meaningful to both of you.
Intimate Weddings in Roatán
Not every couple who wants a small wedding wants to elope alone. We also plan intimate destination weddings for couples who want to invite their closest friends and family, like Lacey & Aaron’s intimate wedding at Infinity Bay.
A celebration with 10, 15, 20 or 30 guests can still include everything you love about a larger wedding:
- Ceremony
- Cocktail hour
- Beautiful dinner
- Florals
- Photography
- Music
- Cake
- Champagne
- Dancing
- Sunset portraits
- Personalized décor
The difference is that you have more time to spend with every person who traveled to celebrate with you.
Cruise Ship Elopements in Roatán
Visiting Roatán aboard a cruise ship? A cruise stop can be enough time for a beautiful intimate ceremony—but the timeline needs to be planned carefully.
Cruise weddings and elopements are one of our specialties. We plan the celebration around your ship’s schedule, taking into consideration:
- Which Roatán cruise port you are arriving at
- Ship arrival time
- Disembarkation time
- Transportation
- Ceremony location
- Ceremony duration
- Photography
- Lunch or celebration
- Traffic
- Safe return-to-ship time
Depending on your schedule, your Roatán cruise elopement might include a private beach ceremony, photography, champagne and lunch before returning to your ship—just like Brian & Heather’s cruise elopement at Curación.
Our philosophy for cruise celebrations is: From Ship to Shore — Weddings That Fit Your Shore Time and Your Dreams.

Symbolic or Legal Wedding in Roatán?
One of the first decisions is whether you want your ceremony in Roatán to be symbolic or legally recognized.
Symbolic Ceremony
A symbolic ceremony is usually the easiest option for international couples. Many couples complete the legal marriage requirements in their home country and then have their actual wedding celebration and vows in Roatán.
A symbolic ceremony still looks and feels like a wedding. You can have an officiant, exchange vows and rings, include readings and create a personalized ceremony without dealing with international legal paperwork.
Legal Marriage in Honduras
It may also be possible for foreign couples to legally marry in Honduras. Legal marriages require additional documents and preparation, and requirements can vary depending on citizenship and circumstances.
If a legal wedding is important to you, contact us early in the planning process so we can review the current requirements and determine whether the timeline is realistic.
Where Can We Elope in Roatán?
Roatán offers many different settings for intimate weddings. Depending on your style and guest count, we may recommend:
Kimpton Grand Roatán
A beautiful option in West Bay for couples looking for a luxury resort experience with beach, rooftop and indoor possibilities. Kimpton can work particularly well for couples who want the convenience of staying at the same resort where they celebrate.

Ibagari Boutique Hotel
A wonderful choice for couples who love art, design, ocean views and a boutique-hotel atmosphere.
The Beach Club at San Simon
A relaxed West Bay beachfront option that lets you celebrate very close to the Caribbean.
Las Verandas Hotel & Villas
A beautiful resort setting that can work for couples looking for privacy and room to create a personalized celebration.
Infinity Bay Spa & Beach Resort
A convenient West Bay option, particularly if you and your guests want accommodations and wedding celebrations close together.
Blue Roatan
A lovely oceanfront setting for couples who want an island atmosphere and Caribbean views.
There are also less traditional locations that may work for proposals, vow renewals and extremely small ceremonies.
The right location depends on your style, budget, guest count, weather considerations and whether you are staying on the island or visiting from a cruise ship.

What Is the Best Time of Year to Elope in Roatán?
Roatán is a tropical destination, which means beautiful weddings can happen throughout the year. However, weather should always be part of the planning conversation.
Some months tend to be wetter than others, and tropical weather can change quickly. That doesn’t mean you should be afraid of choosing a particular month. It means we should choose your venue and ceremony plan with the weather in mind.
For couples marrying during wetter periods, we especially like venues with a strong indoor or covered Plan B.
What Happens if It Rains?
Rain is one of the most common concerns we hear from destination couples. Our answer is simple: we plan for it.
For venues where weather could affect the ceremony, we want to know in advance:
- Where the ceremony can move
- Who makes the weather decision
- When that decision must be made
- How décor will be relocated
- Where photography can happen
- How guests will be informed
A Plan B should never be an afterthought. Sometimes Plan B becomes one of the most beautiful parts of the wedding—see Audrey & Michael’s rain-plan wedding at Kimpton.
Cecilia’s Tip for Couples Planning an Elopement
Don’t assume that because your wedding is small, you don’t need a plan.
With an intimate wedding, every detail is visible. The ceremony location matters. The timing matters. The flowers matter. The photography matters.
And because there may only be a few people present—or only the two of you—the experience becomes incredibly personal.
Choose the elements that mean the most to you and invest your time and budget there. You do not need to recreate a 100-person wedding for two people.
Create something completely your own.

Frequently Asked Questions About Eloping in Roatán
Can we elope in Roatán with no guests?
Absolutely. We regularly help couples plan intimate celebrations and can coordinate a ceremony for just the two of you.
Can we get married in Roatán during a cruise stop?
Yes, depending on your ship’s schedule and the availability of the venue and vendors. Cruise-day weddings require careful timing, which is why we build the celebration around your ship’s arrival and departure.
Can our Roatán elopement be legally recognized?
Potentially, yes. Legal weddings in Honduras require documentation and advance preparation. Many international couples choose a symbolic ceremony in Roatán and complete their legal marriage at home. Contact us if you are considering a legal ceremony so we can explain the current process.
Do we need witnesses?
Witness requirements depend on whether you are having a symbolic or legal ceremony. A symbolic ceremony can be much more flexible. For legal marriages, specific requirements apply.
How many guests can we have for an intimate wedding?
There is no strict definition. We generally think of intimate weddings as celebrations with a smaller guest count—often anywhere from a few people to approximately 30 guests. But your wedding can be designed around whatever number feels right for you.
Can you arrange photography?
Yes. We can help coordinate professional photography and videography as part of your wedding planning.
Can you arrange flowers?
Yes. We can coordinate bouquets, boutonnieres, ceremony florals, arches and other floral details.
Can we have a private dinner after our ceremony?
Yes. Depending on the location and availability, we can help arrange a romantic dinner or small reception following your ceremony.
Do you plan vow renewals too?
Yes. We also plan vow renewals, proposals and other romantic celebrations throughout Roatán.
